Data Management
Clinics transitioning from their existing electronic medical
record (EMR) to a VCUR 2008 EMR solution, will need to ensure a
successful transfer of patient data between the two systems to
support both continuity of care and clinic operations.
The Physician Office System Program (POSP) has developed an
approach to support the secure and effective migration of data from
an existing EMR to each of the EMR solutions offered by
the two qualified service providers (EMR vendors).
POSP's data management process includes both data migration and
records retention. Migration includes data assessment, data
extraction and data loading.
Each clinic's data management solution is unique. The optimum
solution for any situation depends on a variety of factors
including:
- A clinic's unique use of its current EMR
- The completeness of existing data
- The existing EMR vendor
- The chosen qualified EMR solution
- The specific needs of the physician and/or clinic
As custodian, it is the physician's sole responsibility to make
decisions related to data management and to ensure that those
decisions meet medical legal requirements for continuity of
care.
POSP can assist with each step of the data management process to
assist clinics in developing the most appropriate data management
plan, overseeing the migration and offering records retention
options.
