Become a Peer Leader

A Peer Leader is a source of wisdom and experience for physicians, clinic managers and other health professionals as they transition to an electronic medical record (EMR) environment within the Physician Office System Program.

Contribute to Alberta's health care community

Peer Leaders use their experiences and best practices to provide advice on EMR functionality in meeting the unique business requirements of individual clinics.

Peer Leaders guide colleagues in achieving a smooth operational transition to an electronic medical environment and support clinicians in realizing individual clinic- defined EMR goals by:

  • Providing objective advice related to EMRs
  • Assessing clinic progress in use of EMR functionality
  • Assisting in the identification of gaps and challenges
  • Providing appropriate contacts and resources to broaden network and increase knowledge
  • Discussing benefits and challenges of EMR implement and use
  • Providing guidance for advanced use of EMRs in clinical practice
  • Demonstrating advanced EMR functionality as a tool for enhanced clinical care

Who can be a Peer Leader

A Peer Leader can be any of the following, as each can offer their own unique expertise and experience in using an EMR as it relates to their job requirements:

  • Physician
  • Clinic Manager
  • Nurse
  • Billing Clerk
  • Scheduling Clerk
  • Medical Office Assistant

Qualifications

To be a Peer Leader, you must:

  • Be a current physician, clinic manager, nurse, billing clerk, scheduling clerk or medical office assistant in a POSP enrolled clinic
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of POSP
  • Have advanced experience using EMR
  • Be willing and able to share your expertise and experiences using EMR with other members of the health care community

Requirements

  • Attend Peer Leader orientation and/or Peer Leader quarterly meeting
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills
  • Ability to inspire trust and confidence in others
  • Desire to influence peers with respect to the adoption and advancement of office automation

Compensation

Peer Leaders receive competitive hourly compensation and will be reimbursed for travel under current POSP guidelines.
