Migrating Practitioner Identification Information Between EMRs
July 26, 2010
Physicians migrating data from a VCUR 2006 or other electronic
medical record (EMR) system to a VCUR 2008 EMR solution need
assurance that as custodians of the information within their EMRs,
they are permitted to transfer specific data.
There is confusion among physicians over the transfer of certain
information, in particular the practitioner identification
information. The qualified service providers (QSPs) of VCUR 2008
solutions have also have expressed a need for formal approval to
transfer practitioner identification information. All existing data
in a custodian's EMR is permitted to be transferred to a new EMR.
The QSPs engaged on the custodian's behalf to transfer this data
are permitted to do so. Existing practitioner identification within
one EMR may therefore be transferred to the custodian's new
EMR.
